Seed Ball

Our aim in our Seed Ball Distribution project was to find a solution to the re-greening problem after the Marmaris forest fires in 2021. As SPARC, we united the teams of 3 high schools and looked for a solution to plant seeds on the burnt soil. As a result, seed balls emerged. 

The main material of the seed balls is clay. In addition, worms and manure can be added and the seed can get its first nutrients from this compost. We can put seeds from different types of flowers, trees and vegetables into these balls. The seed balls released from the air through the drone penetrate under the burning soil and germinate. 

After our cooperation with Muğla Yönelt College, these seed balls were dropped into the forests via drones and they continue to flourish day by day. We continue to expand the #sparc is aware movement with this project, especially targeting hard-to-reach areas.

The next step of this project is a device that can detect forest fires in advance, which we want to place on the ground. This device is designed as a machine that can recognize the fire before it starts with the formation of sparks and deliver the news to the authorities.
